Deyanira González de León (Board Member)
Deyanira González de León is the Chair of Women and Health Together for the Future (WHTF) since 2013 and serves as co-editor of the Women and Health Learning Package.
Prof. González de León is a medical doctor and holds a master’s degree in public health. She has been part of the academic staff of the Department of Health Care, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Xochimilco (UAMX), in Mexico City since 1981. She is currently the Head of the Research Unit on Education and Health. Her teaching and research career has been focused on health promotion and women’s health issues, especially those related to reproductive health and abortion. She teaches in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs and collaborates in institutional initiatives to promote student sexual health and to prevent gender-based violence at the UAMX.
Prof. González de León served as external advisor to Ipas Mexico, an NGO working to improve women’s lives by focusing on reproductive health. While with Ipas, she collaborated on projects to incorporate reproductive health and abortion care in the curricula of medical and nursing schools, as well as to create legal abortion services for victims of sexual violence in public health facilities of Mexico City.
